Ancelotti Gets Two-Match Ban For Applauding Referee
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has been handed a two-match ban for showing public dissent towards a referee.
The Competition Committee of the Spanish football federation (RFEF) said Ancelotti scornfully applauded referee, Clos Gomez after the final whistle as Madrid drew 2-2 with Valencia last Saturday.
According to the match official’s notes, Ancelotti continued the exaggerated applause in the tunnel, and did the same to one of the assistant referees.
The rules states that persons who show “contempt or disregard” to “referees, executives or sports authorities” can be banned from the touchline for up to a month.
The Italian has received the minimum degree of punishment, as he has not been deemed to have committed “a more serious offense.”
