Iheanacho Seals City’s International Cup Triumph Ahead of WYC
Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal as Manchester City
Under-21 squad lifted their first trophy under development squad
manager, Patrick Viera, on Friday.
The Nigeria international, recalled following his impressive performance in the FA Youth Cup, scored the only goal to help the Young Blues clinch the International Premier League Cup at the expense of off FC Porto.
Iheanacho pounced on a poor back pass, calmly rounded the Portuguese side’s goalkeeper before slotting into a gaping net within five minutes of play.
He made way for Brandon Barker on 62 minutes as City held on to a deserved victory.
Benicia, Schalke, Celtic and Leicester City were the other teams who took part in the tournament.
With the Flying Eagles warming up for this month’s FIfa Under-20 World Cup billed for New Zealand, Iheanacho’s performance highlighted his readiness for the international duty after spate of injury setbacks between November early March. He is due to link-up with the Flying Eagles at their training camp in Nuremberg, Germany.
